U18 INFORMATION
OWHA U18 HIGH PERFORMANCE PROGRAM
Please review below important information pertaining to the OWHA U18 High Performance Program, and U18 HP Summer Development/Tryout Camp in July 2024, and the U18 National Championship Event.
The Ontario Women’s Hockey Association will be selecting two teams to represent Ontario at the Women’s U18 National Championship in November 2024.
The OWHA U18 High Performance Program provides selected athletes an opportunity to participate in an OWHA U18 HP Summer Development/Tryout Camp, and possibly be selected to attend the U18 National Championship in November 2024.
Location of the U18 National Championship in November 2024 is TBD by Hockey Canada
The OWHA U18 HP Summer Development/Tryout Camp in July 2024 is by INVITATION ONLY, and this is NOT an APPLICATION PROCESS, and is for OWHA registered athletes only.
This OWHA HP Summer Development/Tryout Camp is for registered OWHA athletes only. This camp is by invitation only. Selected athletes will be invited to attend this camp by no later than June 10, 2024. Only athletes selected to attend this camp will be notified by the OWHA. If an athlete does not receive a notification from the OWHA by June 10, 2024 then they were not selected to attend this camp.
HOW ARE THE ATHLETES SELECTED TO ATTEND THE OWHA U18 HIGH PERFORMANCE SUMMER DEVELOPMENT/TRYOUT CAMP?
Athletes will be identified and selected to attend the OWHA U18 High Performance Summer Development/Tryout Camp through extensive scouting, and evaluation performed by the OWHA Head Scout and his team of evaluators in the 2023-2024 season.
Athletes will be scouted and evaluated at OWHA, and Hockey Canada sanctioned events.
Successful athletes selected through this scouting and evaluation process will be notified of their acceptance to attend the OWHA U18 High Performance Summer Development/Tryout Camp by June 10, 2024.
WHAT IS THE APPROXIMATE NUMBER OF ATHLETES THAT WILL BE INVITED TO ATTEND THE OWHA U18 HP SUMMER DEVELPOMENT/TRYOUT CAMP?
The OWHA will invite approximately eighty OWHA registered athletes to attend the OWHA U18 HP Summer Development/Tryout Camp in July 2024.
Athletes must be registered with, and play on an Ontario Women’s Hockey Association team during the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons to be eligible to attend the OWHA U18 HP Summer Development/Tryout Camp.
OWHA INFORMATION PERTAINING TO OWHA U18 HP SUMMER DEVELOPMENT/TRYOUT CAMP AND SELECTION FOR ONE OF THE TWO ONTARIO TEAMS THAT WILL ATTEND THE U18 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.
The OWHA will identify a select number of athletes out of the OWHA U18 High Performance Summer Development/Tryout Camp who will be considered for Team Ontario Blue and Team Ontario Red.
Athletes who were invited to attend the OWHA U18 HP Summer Development/Tryout Camp will have there on ice performance monitored up until the final selection of the two teams.
Only athletes who were successful in making one of the two teams will be notified on or before the date of September 30, 2024.
The OWHA reserves the right to bring athletes into the final selection process of the two teams at any time.
HOW MANY TEAMS WILL THE OWHA SEND TO THE U18 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP?
The OWHA will select two teams to attend the U18 National Championship in November 2024. The teams will be identified as Team Ontario Blue and Team Ontario Red.
WILL SUCCESSFUL ATHLETES BE BROUGHT TOGETHER FOR A PRECAMP(S) BEFORE THE U18 NATONAL CHAMPIONSHIP?
YES - the OWHA will have a pre camp(s) for Team Ontario Blue, and Team Ontario Red. Details of camp(s) will be forwarded to athletes upon notification of being selected to Team Ontario Blue, and Team Ontario Red.
WHAT AGE GROUP OF ATHLETES QUALIFIES TO BE INVITED TO ATTEND THE OWHA U18 HIGH PERFORMANCE SUMMER DEVELOPMENT/TRYOUT CAMP IN JULY 2024?
- Players invited to attend this camp will be born in the years 2007 and 2008 ONLY.
