2022 OWHA U16 HIGH PERFORMANCE PRELIMINARY IDENTIFICATION/TRYOUT CAMP INFORMATION

2022 ONTARIO SUMMER GAMES INFORMATION

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE 2022 OWHA U16 HIGH PERFORMANCE PRELIMINARY IDENTIFICATION/TRYOUT CAMP

 

The Ontario Summer Games is an OWHA U16 event that is held every 2nd year in the province of Ontario. Example: 2022, 2024 and 2026.

The Ontario Women’s Hockey Association U16 High Performance Program is designed to introduce athletes to the High Performance setting. This program offers athletes an opportunity to participate in an OWHA High Performance Identification/Tryout Preliminary Camp in May 2022. The OWHA U16 High Performance Preliminary Identification/Tryout Camps will offer a highly competitive tryout process through a three game competition.

Out of the OWHA U16 High Performance Preliminary Identification/Tryout Camps a selected number of athletes will be invited to participate in the Ontario Summer Games in July 2022.

The OWHA reserves the right to invite up to 160 athletes to attend the Ontario Summer Games in July 2022.

 

WHAT AGE GROUP IS ELEIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR THE OWHA U16 HIGH PERFORMANCE PRELIMINARY IDENTIFICATION/TRYOUT CAMPS, AND THE ONTARIO SUMMER GAMES IN MAY 2022

Only athletes born in the years 2007-2008 will be considered for the OWHA U16 High Performance Preliminary Identification/Tryout camps and the Ontario Summer Games in 2022.  

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY

The OWHA U16 High Performance Preliminary Identification/Tryout Camps are open to athletes registered within the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association who qualify under the restrictions noted in this document through an application process.

Athletes born in the years 2007-2008 will be considered for the OWHA U16 High Performance Identification/Tryout Camps and Ontario Summer Games in 2022.

Athletes may attend only one OWHA U16 HP Preliminary Identification/Tryout camp. This would be one of the camps they selected to attend through the OWHA process.

In order to qualify for being selected to participate at the Ontario Summer Games in July 2022 athletes must participate in the May 2022 OWHA U16 High Performance Preliminary Identification/Tryout Camps selection process.

This opportunity is open to Ontario residents only who are registered within the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association. Athletes must be registered with, and play on an Ontario Women’s Hockey Association team during the 2021-2022 seasons to be eligible to be invited to the OWHA U16 High Performance Preliminary Identification/Tryout camps in May 2022.

If applying for the OWHA U16 High Performance Preliminary Identification/Tryout camps athletes must be prepared to make a full commitment to attend the camp. This would include attending the OWHA U16 HP Preliminary Identification/Tryout Camps in their entirety along with making a full commitment to the Ontario Summer Games if selected.

There is a possibility that not all athletes will be accepted to attend the OWHA U16 High Performance Preliminary Identification/Tryout camps. Each of the three camps will only accept a maximum of 120 athletes if numbers permit. Teams will consist of 21 players per team, 3 goal tenders, 6 defense, and 12 forwards when numbers permit. Athletes are encouraged to apply early for the camps.

If more than the required number of athletes applies for the OWHA U16 High Performance Identification/Tryout camps the following selection process will be in place for the acceptance of athletes, the two listed below are in no set order:

  • level of play the athlete participated in during the 2021-2022 season
  • date of application received

The OWHA reserves the right to make the final selection of all athletes invited to attend the OWHA U16 High Performance Identification/Tryout Camps and the Ontario Summer Games.

Teams at the OWHA U16 High Performance Preliminary Identification/Tryout camps will play three games each, two games on Saturday and one game on Sunday. All games will consist of three, twenty minute stop time periods of hockey.

Equity of ice time will be in effect at the camps where all athletes receive fair ice time.

Interested participants are encouraged to check the ONTARIO WOMEN’S HOCKEY ASSOCIATION website frequently for updates and changes to camp information. It is the responsibility of the athlete participant to identify when these camps will take place, note any changes, and apply before deadline stated below.

 

 

WHO WILL LEAD THE EVALUATION PROCESS AT THE OWHA U16 HIGH PERFORMANCE PRELIMINARY IDENTIFICATION/TRYOUT CAMPS?

The OWHA Lead Scout will guide a team of OWHA evaluators in the evaluation/selection process of athletes attending the OWHA U16 High Performance Preliminary Identification/Tryout Camps.  

Evaluations done by non-OWHA assigned individuals will not be part of the selection process.

All selections of athletes to move onto the Ontario Summer Games will be arrived at solely out of their performance at the preliminary camps.

Areas of evaluation that are strongly considered in the selection process: skating, individual puck skills, team puck skills, compete level, hockey sense, and intangibles both on and off ice

 

IMPORTANT NOTES IN RELATION TO DETAILS OF THE MAY 2022 OWHA U16 HP PRELIMINARY IDENTIFICATION/TRYOUT CAMP 

All athletes are to arrange their own transportation, and accommodations for the preliminary camps. The OWHA does not pick up any costs related to travel or accommodations.

It is mandatory that all athletes arrive at the designated arena at the start of each day and remain at the arena until the conclusion of each day. There will be no exceptions unless approved by the OWHA. (Covid-19 Protocols in effect at the time will be followed)

Athletes will be required to eat with their team and attend all on ice, off ice functions with their team while they are at the camp. Meals at camp will be provided by the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association. However athletes are responsible for their own breakfast before arriving at camp! (Covid-19 Protocols in effect at the time will be followed)

Ice time, sweaters and meals will be supplied at camp and are included in the athlete participant registration fees.

 

IMORTANT NOTE IN RELATION TO JULY 2022 ONTARIO SUMMER GAMES

Athletes invited to the July 2022 Ontario Summer Games out of the OWHA U16 High Performance Preliminary Identification/Tryout Camps will be notified of their acceptance no later than Friday, June 10th, 2022 at 5:00 PM ET.

Only successful athletes out of the OWHA U16 High Performance Preliminary Identification/ Tryout Camps will be notified of their acceptance to attend the Ontario Summer Games by the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association.

Athletes that do not hear from the OWHA through email by Friday, June 10th, 2022 at 5:00 PM ET should consider that you were not selected to move onto the Ontario Summer Games out of the OWHA U16 High Performance Preliminary Identification/Tryout Camp.

 

APPLICATION INFORMATION: 

All athlete participants wishing to attend the May 2022 OWHA U16 High Performance Preliminary Identification/Tryout camps must apply on-line. ONLY ON-LINE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED!  Applications must be received no later than 11:59 pm on March 15, 2022.

PLEASE MAKE SURE ON THE APPLICATION TO IDENTIFY IN ORDER THE CAMP YOU MAY WISH TO ATTEND. HOWEVER THERE IS NO GAURENTEE THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR FIRST CHOICE IDENTIFIED.

ONTARIO WOMEN’S HOCKEY ASSOCIATION RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CANCEL OR ADD OWHA U16 PRELIMINARY IDENTIFICATION/TRYOUT CAMPS DEPENDING ON REGISTRATION NUMBERS, AND POSSIBLE COVID SITUATION

 

COST OF CAMP (Updated April 19):

$110.00

Alll previous provided cheques sent to the OWHA will be returned to all participants and you will be required to bring cash, money order or cheque in the amount of $110 (made out to the OWHA) at the time of registration/ check-in. This includes a jersey and lunch.

 

NOTE:

The cost of $225.00 only covers the OWHA U16 HP Preliminary Identification/Tryout camp.

If the athlete is selected and invited to attend the 2022 Ontario Summer Game there will be an additional fee to cover the pre-camp, and event expenses.
