The BFL CANADA Women in Coaching Award is back for its 5th season, with nominations opening Friday, December 1st! The program, formally known as the BFL Female Coach of the Year Award, was renamed to reflect Hockey Canada’s commitment to using consistent and inclusive language.
Purpose
The BFL Coach of the Year Awards recognize and honour coaches who exemplify the positive values of hockey and sport, for their successful and outstanding achievements in player development and the leadership of their players and teams.
The BFL Coach of the Year Awards will honour one woman community coach and one woman competitive coach in each province and one woman high-performance coach who have made outstanding contributions over an extended period of time coaching hockey programs within Hockey Canada female and/or minor hockey programs.
In addition, BFL Coach of the Year Award provincial winners will be considered in the selection of the national BFL Coach of the Year Awards for community coach and competitive coach. One national winner will be selected from the High-Performance category.
Categories
Defined as a woman coaching athletes of any age who play and compete in divisions where there is not a National Championship identified as a culminating event. (ex. U7-U15 House League and up to A/AA)
Defined as a woman coaching athletes of any age who play and compete in divisions where the participants are eligible to compete in a National Championship, accredited Sport School Championship, or a Provincially designated Program of Excellence. (ex. Sport Schools, U15-U18 AAA, U22 Elite)
Defined as a woman coaching athletes that are above the age of 16 and compete at the USports, Canadian Collegiate Hockey, Junior Hockey, or Professional levels.

Nomination Procedure
Nominations Open December 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024
Any individual may nominate a coach for the provincial coach awards. The nomination must clearly state whether the award nomination is for the community coach and competitive coach category or if the nomination is for the National high-performance coach.
The individual submitting the nomination should complete the online nomination form and should also include a covering letter of support (not to exceed 300 words). As well, the supporting materials will include testimonials as to why the individual should be considered.
Selection of all provincial award winners will be made the Members. The National community, competitive and high-performance coaches will be selected by the BFL Female Coach of the Year Selection Committee.
The Selection Committee and the Members reserve the right to contact the participants on the team and/or others deemed appropriate prior to the final decision.
